In this professional development session, mindfulness expert Hunter Clarke-Fields shared valuable insights on preventing teacher burnout through self-compassion and reflective listening. Drawing from her over two decades of meditation experience and her own brief teaching background, Clarke-Fields addressed the unique challenges educators face, including overwhelming workloads, emotional labor, and limited resources. She emphasized that while many external stressors may be beyond teachers’ control, they can influence their response through mindful self-care practices.
The session focused on practical tools for building resilience, particularly the three components of self-compassion: mindfulness versus over-identification, self-kindness versus judgment, and recognizing common humanity versus isolation. Clarke-Fields, known for her Mindful Mama podcast and bestselling books on mindful parenting, also introduced reflective listening as an effective strategy for helping both teachers and students regulate their emotions.
