In the second Professional Development session of the 2025-2026 school year, FocusedKids trainer Rebecca Segal led participants in a session on how to cultivate calm in the classroom, supporting mindfulness for educators.

There are countless definitions, perspectives, and approaches to the topic of mindfulness, and as a result it sometimes becomes an overused or misunderstood concept. In this session, participants learned about what it means beyond the buzzword. They gained a clear, practical overview of what mindfulness truly is and how it can fundamentally change the daily experience of a teacher. They also had the opportunity to engage in mindfulness practices with Rebecca, including meditation, the pause, breathe, and smile approach (P.B.S.), and so much more!

With mindfulness…

  • Find more calm amid the chaos
  • Make more intentional, better choices
  • Be less distracted and more present in all your interactions
  • Uncover a deeper sense of peace and inner joy in all aspects of your life

After the session, participants committed to trying one mindfulness practice over this next week: meditation, watering seeds of kindness, values (pause – does this align with my values?), name it, and pause, breathe, smile (P.B.S.). Remember, start where you're at!
