Hand Model Of The Brain

The hand model of the brain, also known as the “handy brain,” is a helpful way to understand how different parts of the brain work together. It uses the hand as a symbol to explain the functions and interactions of various brain regions. We like to use it because it helps simplify a complex concept, supports kinesthetic learning, and provides a shared tool that you can your students can use to bridge theory and practice.

This model works well with all ages but is an excellent alternative to the puppets as students reach late elementary school.

Once you understand how to work with the hand model of the brain, holding up your hand using the “flipped your lid” signal can be a non-verbal way to get students’ attention. Follow this up with three breaths, and students will be focused and ready to engage.
