FocusedKids was recently featured in a wonderful article written by Jenny Stahl, Early Childhood Coordinator of ECS Child’s Play Preschool.
In the article Stahl writes, “What we know from current research in child development is that children need repeated, carefully selected experiences to develop healthy behaviors. The less socialized world we live in today makes it difficult to provide the same opportunities for this to occur as it used to. FocusedKids provides a framework for “focusing” on this learning.”
She goes on to say that “the unique thing about the FocusedKids approach is that we use puppets to represent the three parts of the brain. Children learn what each one does, and how to help them work together. This delights, intrigues, and empowers kids to obtain mastery over their behavior and emotions.”
Using FocusedKids in the Classroom
Cave Creek Unified School District has been using the FocusedKids curriculum in their preschool and elementary classrooms since 2018. It complements the Second Step Bullying Prevention program taught in their elementary and middle school grades. Over the past two years, teachers and parents have seen a dramatic improvement in children’s ability to self-regulate using knowledge of how the brain works.
